Maruko:
Maruko is a third-year primary school student. Her real name is Momoko Sakura. But she is quite small, so people think she looks like a little ball and call her “Chibi Maruko”.
She has a family of six, Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, Mother and her older sister.
She is always very cheerful and funny. Of course, she sometimes feels blue after being scolded by her mother for being lazy or fighting with her sister, but she soon becomes full of energy again.

Sister:
Maruko’s older sister, Sakiko is in the fifth year of the same primary school as Maruko.
She is a very cool person. She is never influenced by others and does everything at her own pace and in her own way.

Grandfather:
Maruko’s Grandfather, Tomozou is 76 years old man. He is always on Maruko’s side and is a great help to her. Tomozou is a little bit slow and sometimes says stupid things or gives totally wrong advice to Maruko.

Tamae:
Tamae is Maruko’s best friend. Her desk is next to Maruko’s in the classroom and they are always together, chatting, playing and walking home from school.

Hanawa:
Hanawa is one of Maruko’s classmates. He is the son of a very rich family and lives in an enormous house with his butler and many housemaids because his parents live abroad.
He speaks English and French and is good at playing the piano and the violin.
Hanawa is very nice and gentle to girls and is kind of a snob.

Maruo:
Maruo is one of Maruko’s classmates and serves as class president. All he wishes is to remain class president for as long as possible and he will do anything to win the class election.
He is a very serious student and studies very hard everyday. The one thing he doesn’t like is being asked to sing a song.

Noguchi:
Noguchi is one of Maruko’s classmates. She is gloomy and spooky despite the fact that she loves comedies. She is always watching for something funny in the classroom and when someone says something funny or makes a stupid mistake, she suddenly appears at their back, sneering. |

Based on a popular biographical comic book by Sakura Momoko, “Chibi Maruko chan” is a top-rating TV series which has achieved an audience rating of 39.9%. Chibi Maruko chan is the nick name of a sweetly obnoxious 9-year-old girl. She tricks her grandfather, ponders for hours over how to spend her allowance, and hates sitting next to ugly boys. She talks, feels and lives just as real kids do.
